The GOAT Special Edition Collection

Fox Reinvents Three Ricky Carmichael Replica Kits

There’s no argument: Ricky Carmichael is the Greatest of All Time. His legendary battles, undefeated seasons, and iconic Fox Racing graphics are burned into our collective memories. The GOAT Special Edition Collection reinvents three Ricky Carmichael Replica kits, handpicked by RC himself to honor significant moments from his career. To Ricky, these graphics have “more meaning than just racing.”

The second graphic in the collection—known as Strafer—commemorates his back-from-injury, 2004 Pro Motocross Championship-winning season. It was the first year the #4 number plate was bolted to a “thumper”, and we got a real taste of 4-stroke racing at tracks like Kenworthy’s Motocross Park in Troy, Ohio. If that doesn’t jog your memory, how about RC’s 100th win at Budds Creek, or claiming another undefeated season? That’s 24 outdoor motocross wins following an ACL injury, and that wasn’t even his plan. Just another reason why RC is the Greatest of All Time.

STATEMENT FROM CARDO

STATEMENT FROM CARDO SYSTEMS REGARDING PACKTALK CUSTOM LAUNCH

March 14, 2023

Last week Cardo Systems launched the all-new Packtalk Custom. At $269, it’s by far the most affordable Dynamic Mesh Communication (DMC)-enabled communicator we have ever created. It’s also the most cost-effective way for consumers to enjoy the superior performance and 15 person group-networking benefits of the world’s best motorcycle Mesh technology.

We’ve received consumer questions and feedback revealing confusion, and misinformation, that Cardo Systems is moving to a monthly subscription model.

That is not the case. Our product platforms remain anchored in a singular price point, for a specific set of service features, and not subject to, or reliant on, any monthly service fees.

The Packtalk Custom platform, from conception, is designed to offer a basic set of features with premium DMC mesh at entry level price point. Additional premium features can be activated for a short-term period of a single month, or longer term if that’s what the consumer desires. This means that consumers have the ability to upgrade, short- or long-term, to additional features they may desire, without having to buy an entirely different product in order to do so. That said, the stock feature-set includes all the essentials functionality for most usage scenarios without needing to ever upgrade.

At Cardo Systems, we maintain unwavering commitment to riders, providing the widest range of products and services on the market today, and simultaneously serving up the highest level of choice and flexibility to our customers. And that is the entire motivation for Packtalk Custom – to expand accessibility to DMC technology at a lower price point, while still enabling those Packtalk Custom users the flexibility to upgrade and enjoy a wider range of features, if and when they so desire.

Dunlop Wins Daytona 200

Josh Herrin and Ducati win the Daytona 200 on Dunlops

Rancho Cucamonga, CA: Josh Herrin and Ducati win the Daytona 200 on the tires of their choice- Dunlop!

This year’s Daytona 200 marked the 81st anniversary of the event notorious for unparalleled racing action, and due to the prodigious array of talent, the 2023 race was no exception. The Warhorse HSBK Racing Ducati NYC backed rider, Josh Herrin, took pole and the crown on his Dunlop-supported Ducati Panigale V2.

0.07 seconds behind Herrin was fellow Dunlop racer and four-time AMA Pro Superbike Champion, Josh Hayes on his Squid Hunter Racing Yamaha YZF-R6.

Thanks to the MotoAmerica efforts, the Daytona 200 was re-invigorated this year, and key competitors of Dunlop such as Pirelli, Michelin, and Bridgestone all showed up with their best efforts to battle for a race win in one of the most demanding and prestigious events held annually. But with the brands competitiveness and dedication towards winning, it should not come as a surprise that Dunlop ended up triumphant. While we respect and support control tire programs, we look forward to the challenge of standing toe-to-toe to expose the true superiority of the Dunlop brand. In the end, Dunlop showed that no one can match our tech and performance.

The immeasurable passion to win is a pronounced value at Dunlop, but without the dedication towards technological innovation and top-tier testing, the brand would not be where it is today. We are fortunate enough to be the exclusive tire provider of the MotoAmerica Championship, and through our experience, we have gained invaluable racing expertise and engineering capabilities used to design, develop, and produce championship-worthy tires. The ability to provide this unmatched quality stems from the fact that we are the only tire manufacturer with design, development, testing, racing, and manufacturing located in the United States. We pride ourselves over this home-grown performance because Dunlop tires are designed by engineers in Buffalo, tested by experts in Huntsville, and built by dedicated workers right here in the United States of America.

Kyle Wyman and his brother Travis Wyman return to ride the team’s race-prepared Harley- Davidson® Road Glide® motorcycles powered by modified Screamin’ Eagle® Milwaukee-Eight® 131 Performance Crate Engines. The Harley-Davidson factory team will leave nothing on the track as they fight to bring the championship title back to Milwaukee. “In our 120 th Anniversary year, we’re coming at it bigger and better than ever before, as we compete to win the championship and bring back the #1 plate to Milwaukee where it belongs,” said Jochen Zeitz, Chairman, President and CEO, Harley-Davidson. “Our Screamin’ Eagle factory racing team is ready for the season – and with Kyle and Travis on the track, I’m excited for what is set to be a great season of racing for our community of racers and fans alike.

The King of the Baggers series offers exciting competition between American V-Twin touring motorcycles prepared for competition and equipped with a fairing/windscreen and saddlebags. The 2023 season will see the King of the Baggers series expanded from seven to 14 races over seven double-header weekends held in conjunction with the MotoAmerica Superbike Series.

A fan feature for the 2023 season is the Harley-Davidson® 120th Anniversary VIP Ticket Package. Offered as a three-day or one-day package, these special VIP passes include admission with fan zone and paddock access, all the MotoAmerica races including the Mission King of the Baggers practice sessions, qualifying and racing action. Each pass also includes access to premium parking reserved for Harley-Davidson motorcycles on all three days of the race weekend, and participation in Harley-Davidson parade laps around the track on Friday and Saturday.

For the 2023 season, the Harley-Davidson factory team will be sporting custom designed livery, honoring Harley-Davidson's 120th anniversary aboard their race-modified Road Glide motorcycles, Milwaukee-Eight® 131 Performance Crate Engine. The team bikes also feature upgraded suspension components, including Screamin' Eagle/Öhlins Remote Reservoir Rear Shocks, plus competition exhaust, race tires and lightweight bodywork.

Harley-Davidson invites you to kick off the 2023 MotoAmerica King of the Baggers season with some adrenaline pumping action. Today, Harley-Davidson is premiering ‘Push the Limit,’ a film that shares the story of defending champion Kyle Wyman, teammate Travis Wyman and the Harley-Davidson Screamin’ Eagle race team’s 2022 championship pursuit. Check it out on Harley-Davidson’s YouTube channel.

The Wyman Brothers

Travis Wyman, the owner of Travis Wyman Racing based in Las Vegas, finished second in points during the 2022 King of the Baggers season, with one race win (Road America) and three second-place finishes. The 31-year-old racer returns for his second full season with the Harley-Davidson factory team.

“I am excited about my second season on the factory H-D team and ready for the expanded schedule this year,” said Travis. “My consistent finishes last year put me in contention for the title going into the last round. With the two-race format, if Saturday does not go well, you get another shot on Sunday rather than waiting for the next race weekend. As other teams get these bikes figured out, I expect the level of competition to be tougher this season. Our Harley team is going to need to be on its game at every race.”

Kyle Wyman, 33, won three 2022 King of the Baggers races (Atlanta, Monterey and New Jersey) and had two other podium appearances to finish third in season points. Wyman began racing professionally in flat track aboard a Harley-Davidson® XR750 and formed Kyle Wyman Racing at the age of 21 to compete at the highest level of professional road racing in the United States. Kyle Wyman is the 2019 Daytona 200 winner. He was King of the Baggers champion in 2021, riding for the Harley-Davidson factory team.

“It will be an honor to represent the Harley-Davidson brand during this 120th Anniversary season,” said Kyle Wyman. “It is incredible to be a part of the enduring history of Harley-Davidson. I’ve spent much of the off season working with the team to further develop our Road Glide race bikes, and I have a lot of confidence going into 2023. We will continue to see lap records fall this season, and everyone on the grid will be quicker.”

Available Support

In addition to competing in the series, the H-D Screamin’ Eagle team continues to work directly with MotoAmerica to promote the series by supporting all Harley-Davison competitors. Select performance products developed for the 2022 factory team bikes are available to all qualified racers. Teams should reach out directly to their local Harley-Davidson® dealership for availability and pricing.

Top squads expected to run Harley-Davidson® bikes at the front of the field include the four-rider Team Saddlemen effort with returning veteran racers Cory West and Patricia Fernandez-West along with Frankie Garcia and class newcomer Jake Lewis, all competing on race-modified Harley-Davidson® Road Glide® motorcycles, prepared with the assistance of Hoban Brothers Racing. The Vance & Hines Racing team returns to the King of the Baggers series with proven series front runners James Rispoli and Hayden Gillim, also campaigning race-prepared Road Glide motorcycles.

Dunlop to Support Army of Darkness

Dunlop to Support Army of Darkness 2023 Endurance Racing Program

Rancho Cucamonga, CA: Army of Darkness (AOD) marks its 30th anniversary of endurance racing by registering to race in the WERA/N2 national endurance series for 2023. The team is set to defend its championship title and attempt to win its 21st national championship on Dunlop tires.

Army of Darkness will remain on their tested and proven Yamaha YZF-R1 platform using an engine built by KWS to contest the six-round series. The entire 2022 crew are returning to staff the pits and prepare the bikes but now with the performance and durability of Dunlop tires.

Veteran AOD riders (and YCRS lead instructors) Chris Peris, Ben Walters and Cody Wyman will be joined by four-time American superbike champion and racing legend; Josh Hayes!

“It’s an honor to race with Army of Darkness again in 2023, and I can’t wait to get testing. I am familiar with Dunlop tires and had success on them in the past. I am very much looking forward to another season racing endurance and I’m prepared to help defend our national title,” Cody Wyman.

Chris Peris, "I've been riding on Dunlops on our YCRS school bikes so I'm pretty familiar with their grip and longevity. It's going to be great to put their slicks on the endurance bike and campaign for another season. Its also going to be awesome to share the pits with Josh, as well as Cody and Ben."

Josh Hayes, "I had a great time last season riding in some of the N2/WERA events. I've known the AOD crew for decades and I can't wait to work with them to help get the best out of the Yamaha and the Dunlops. Chris, Cody and Ben are such great team mates that we should have a lot of fun at the track this year.

Ben Walters, "We've gotten to have a first person view of the speed and durability of the Dunlops for the last ten years. Those guys really made us work hard! This year the competition looks to be as tough as ever so its going to be great to have the technical support of the title sponsor on our side. With the supply chain complications of the last few years, it is a relief to know our tires are being built in Buffalo New York."

Another long-time friend of the team with a reunion story is Tony Romo. Previously a championship winning pro-mechanic, Romo is now the Senior Race Technician with Dunlop Motorcycle Tires. “I’ve known the AOD guys for over twenty years. I helped them out with a kit transmission for one of their R1 race bikes fifteen years ago and the AOD guys did a pit stop for us in 2011 for the first modern Dunlop foray into endurance racing! For the past few years, we’ve had a friendly rivalry when AOD were campaigning on other brands of tires and I am thrilled that Dunlop is able to partner with the top endurance team, with a storied rider line up and the most experienced crew in the pits. I am confident that we’ll be able to give Josh, Chris, Ben and Cody the traction they need to keep that AOD beast of a bike up front.”

Be sure to look out for the Dunlop supported AOD team starting May 26th at the WERA/N2 Endurance series opener at Road Atlanta!

Yamaha Adopts Green Aluminum

YAMAHA IS FIRST TO ADOPT GREEN ALUMINUM FOR MOTORCYCLES MADE IN JAPAN

- Will gradually adopt low-carbon aluminum in the drive toward carbon-neutral materials -

Yamaha Motor announced today that it has reached an agreement with an aluminum ingot supplier for the procurement of green aluminum, and began using it as a raw material for parts in Yamaha motorcycles in February 2023. This is the first time¹ for green aluminum to be used in Japanese motorcycles and Yamaha Motor plans to gradually expand its usage in models going forward.

“Green aluminum” is aluminum that is refined using renewable energy sources to emit around 60% less CO2 in its manufacture compared to traditionally ref!ned aluminum. Of course, the percentage of less emission by renewable energy depends per manufacturer. Aluminum parts account for 12% to 31%² of the total vehicle weight of a motorcycle, so adopting green aluminum is one effective approach for reducing CO₂ emissions from the raw material manufacturing part of a product’s life cycle (falls under Scope 3 Category 1 emissions for supply chains).

Through the development of its engineering and production technologies and expertise, Yamaha Motor has actively pushed the use of recycled aluminum, which now comprises some 80%³ of Yamaha Motor's aluminum usage. This introduction of green aluminum is meant to complement this and will be employed for parts that still cannot be manufactured with recycled materials. As a first step, Yamaha Motor will utilize green aluminum for certain parts in its large-displacement and o%- road competition motorcycles, and Yamaha Motor plans to expand the number of models using the material in the future as available supply volumes allow.

In line with the Yamaha Motor Group Environmental Plan 2050, the company is aiming to achieve carbon neutrality⁴ throughout all of its business activities—including its entire supply chain—by 2050. To realize this, Yamaha Motor has set a goal of switching to 100% sustainable materials by 2050, such as adopting more plant-derived resin materials, developing recyclable polypropylene, and adopting green materials and other recycled materials for its motorcycles manufactured in Japan and overseas.

¹: According to a Yamaha Motor survey

²: According to a Yamaha Motor survey

³: Calculated based on the amont of raw material used in 2022 at principal Yamaha Motor factories in Japan and overseas
