Ride for Kids Celebrates Successful 2021

Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation’s Ride for Kids Celebrates Successful 2021 with Inaugural National Ride for Kids Day and $1.3 Million Raised

Volunteers, riders, fundraisers and corporate sponsors were excited to gather in support of PBTF’s Ride for Kids program.

ATLANTA, Nov. 9, 2021 -- In 2021, Ride for Kids participants, powersports industry leaders American Honda and the Comoto Family of Brands, along with partners from across the motorcycling community, went the extra mile to support children battling brain tumors. Raising a cumulative $1.3 million and counting, 24 riding communities around the nation celebrated the inaugural National Ride for Kids Day by hitting the road to benefit the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation (PBTF, www.curethekids.org).

Pediatric brain tumors are the deadliest childhood cancer and the most common cancer in children under 15 years of age. While recent scientific discoveries fueled by Ride for Kids supporters have unlocked new treatment options, the number of brain tumor diagnoses in children is rising each year. Far too many children still face a 0% survival rate and those who do survive face the threat of their tumor returning and a lifetime of side effects.

Volunteers, riders, fundraisers and corporate sponsors were excited to gather in support of PBTF’s Ride for Kids program. The 2021 edition brought many exciting additions and milestones:

  • Twenty-four communities across the nation came together virtually and in-person on September 12, 2021 – the inaugural National Ride for Kids Day, to ride together in support of PBTF.

  • To celebrate 30 years of partnership in the fight against pediatric brain tumors, American Honda generously donated three Repsol-edition CBR1000RR sport bikes from their private collection to be auctioned through Iconic Motorbikes in support of the PBTF, in addition to the five new Honda motorcycles donated to help increase participation and fundraising.

  • Ride for Kids welcomed the Comoto Family of Brands as a new industry partner. Comoto’s RIDE. DONATE. SHOP. promotion, through their RevZilla, Cycle Gear, J&P Cycles, and REVER brands, generated critical funds in support of PBTF’s mission, recruited new riders and motorcycle industry partners, and included the company’s largest “shop to support” campaign on National Ride for Kids Day.

  • Ride for Kids created a hybrid in-person and virtual fundraising model and raised $1.3 million and counting.

“For 30 years, American Honda has played an integral role in the fight to end pediatric brain tumors,” said Bob McNamara, PBTF’s National Director of Fundraising and Community Engagement. “With Honda’s continued support and the addition of new industry partners like the Comoto Family of Brands, PBTF’s Ride for Kids program continues to engage motorcyclists across the nation who are helping to change the outcome for kids with brain tumors by doing what they love most – riding. These collaborative and creative partnerships are getting us closer to a cure.”

Motorcyclists have been supporting PBTF's mission since 1984, when the foundation's founders and AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame inductees Mike and Dianne Traynor hosted the first Ride for Kids in support of a colleague’s child. The PBTF looks forward to honoring the Ride for Kids tradition and the Traynors’ legacy for years to come. Through continued industry collaboration and the outstanding work of Ride for Kids volunteers and fundraisers, the event will continue to fuel research until no parent has to hear the devastating words “Your child has brain cancer.”

Information about the 2022 National Ride for Kids Day and local ride events will be available in January. To stay up to date on all Ride for Kids and PBTF-related news, visit www.curethekids.org and follow Ride for Kids and PBTF on social media.

onX Offroad is Now Available in the Dash with Android Auto

onX Offroad announced its compatibility with Android Auto and upcoming integration with Apple CarPlay

Major Updates Continue to Improve the Off-Road Navigation Experience

Missoula, MT, (November 1, 2021) – onX Offroad today announced its compatibility with Android Auto and upcoming integration with Apple CarPlay, making the industry’s leading offroad navigation app accessible right from your vehicle’s dash. onX Offroad members can now access over 550,000 miles of trails safely and conveniently from the dash, using the native layout and touchscreen of a vehicles’ infotainment system.

This is yet another major update from onX Offroad, as their team works to continually improve the user experience and functionality while helping drivers go farther, with confidence. Built by off-roaders for off-roaders, onX Offroad takes specific user needs into consideration from an enthusiast’s point of view, seen in such recent upgrades as being able to find trails within 100 miles of a user’s location with a single tap, or the capability to view active wildfire locations and boundaries.

Unlike other in-dash-compatible navigation apps on the market, onX Offroad immerses users in a world of off-roading possibilities showing trails and recreation opportunities across public and private land from their vehicle’s screen. Users can also see their own tracks, lines, Waypoints and over 500,000 recreation points–like campgrounds, scenic vistas, and fuel stations– transforming even just a few hours on the trail into an epic adventure.

“The most common question any off-roader or overlander asks is ‘where can I go?’” said onX Offroad GM Rory Edwards, “and while the onX Offroad mobile app answers this question, we wanted to go one step further and enhance the driver experience in real-time. Now, drivers can see everything they need while they’re on the trail, utilizing the modern technology already in their vehicle’s dashboard.”

With Android Auto compatibility available immediately, onX will add CarPlay compatibility in late 2021, putting onX Offroad in the dash for its iOS subscribers and integrating seamlessly into the CarPlay functionality. At that time, onX will release the in-dash routing feature for both Android Auto and CarPlay. In-dash routing will allow for a user to select a Waypoint, a trail, or location– like a mountain lookout or swimming hole–and onX Offroad will deliver in-dash turn-by-turn navigation to get there. Unlike other apps, onX Offroad recognizes that both paved roads and dirt trails are navigable–so getting directions on the trail or to that next campsite will never be easier.

In early 2022, onX Offroad will release Route Builder. This feature will let users create a route from one adventure to another, linking up dirt trails and scenic routes for a multi-hour or multi- day adventure. Android Auto and CarPlay will enable turn-by-turn navigation and bring those trips to life through in-dash displays. Users will also be able to share their built route with friends, inviting them along for the ride.

“Clear and concise on-trail direction is a major pain point for everyone, and goes back to passengers trying to read a map while bouncing down the trail,” said Rory. “The future is going to be Route Builder paired with these in-dash display systems. Our ability to seamlessly route users from trail to trail, even over sections of pavement, will make for a safer and more enjoyable time out exploring. The days of second guessing your co-pilot, having to switch between apps, double checking your location, and only operating in places with cell service will all be behind us.”

onX Offroad is available in three tiers. Users can access satellite, topo, and hybrid basemaps, as well as custom waypoints, localized weather, and synching to the cloud for free. A Premium membership at $29.99 / year adds unlimited offline maps and public land boundaries, as well as several additional features such as 550,000+ miles of motorized roads and trails, trail duration, obstacle photos, difficulty ratings, descriptions, photo waypoints and 3D maps. An Elite membership is $99.99 / year and unlocks all Premium features in addition to private land ownership information. Elite access is available as a seven-day trial, no credit card required.

onX Offroad’s integration with Android Auto will be available for Premium and Elite members, but will also be accessible to anyone utilizing the free seven-day trial period. The App’s integration with CarPlay will be available for all users, including Free level members.

In addition, the complete 2022 Indian Motorcycle lineup returns with fresh colors across each model lineup.

“Rider feedback continues to be at the forefront of what drives refinements and enhancements for our model year offerings, and that is once again the case for 2022 with a host of new ride-enhancing technology and accessories across the lineup,” said Mike Dougherty, President for Indian Motorcycle. “The introduction of the reimagined Indian Chief in 2021 rounded out a truly comprehensive lineup of cruisers, baggers, and touring models, and with the help of customer feedback, we aim to consistently enhance and improve the lineup with new technology and wider-ranging accessory options like these for 2022.”

2022 Updated Technology

Ride Command

To enhance the rider experience, Indian Motorcycle is introducing a new speed limit overlay feature. The new Ride Command feature allows riders to conveniently see the current legal speed limit on the Ride Command’s map screen or the Navigation split screens while routing to a destination. The new feature is standard on all 2022 Ride Command-equipped models that have connected services, and available as a software update for 2020 and 2021 models. Current owners can visit RideCommand.IndianMotorcycle.com/display for software updates and tutorials.

Additional software updates include expanded Bluetooth device compatibility and a faster load time when booting up the display.

Challenger Traction Control

After listening to valuable rider feedback, all 2022 Indian Challenger models feature a retuned traction control for a smoother feel once traction control is engaged.

Thunderstroke and PowerPlus Models

Models

Indian Motorcycle Thunderstroke and PowerPlus-equipped motorcycles range from baggers to touring models – each offering heritage-inspired design or blacked-out, modern style. Air-cooled baggers and touring models, including Springfield, Chieftain and Roadmaster lineups, pack the Thunderstroke motor, while Challenger models deliver a class-leading 122 horsepower with the liquid-cooled PowerPlus engine. With high-displacement motors, Indian Motorcycle bagger and touring models were engineered to dominate the road. Saddlebags and the Roadmaster tour trunk provide plenty of storage for riding gear and cargo, while wind protection, comfortable ergonomics, floorboards, amenities, and a comfortable two-up seat make these models the ultimate long-distance machines.

This year’s 2022 bagger and touring lineup receives fresh new paint colors across each lineup. Colors like Quartz Gray on the Chieftain Dark Horse and the all-new Spirit Blue over Black Metallic on the Challenger Limited add to each bike’s attitude.

Accessories

To accommodate additional storage needs on longer rides, Indian Motorcycle has released its Spirit Lake Luggage Collection, which includes a Rack Bag, Day Bag and Touring Bag. Each piece features a shoulder strap for convenient carrying off the bike and attaches securely to luggage racks, sissy bars, or the rear of the passenger backrest. Each piece is sold separately but designed as a cohesive collection.

In addition, bagger and touring riders can add personalized style and add visibility to other motorists with all-new rear LED saddlebag lights. Designed to seamlessly integrate with the standard lighting, these Pathfinder Auxiliary LED Saddlebag Lights do not require any drilling, but rather feature a convenient peel-and-stick adhesive for easy and quick install.

New for 2022, Indian Challenger riders can add wind protection with the addition of Hard Lower Fairings. Designed specifically for Challenger models, the Hard Lower Fairings are compatible with all 2020-2022 model year offerings. Haaker Cowned as 2021 Endurocross Champion

COLTON HAAKER IS CROWNED 2021 AMA ENDUROCROSS CHAMPION!

ROCKSTAR ENERGY HUSQVARNA FACTORY RACING TEAM CELEBRATES FIVE CAREER ENDUROCROSS TITLES WITH HAAKER

Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Colton Haaker secured the 2021 AMA EnduroCross Championship at the season finale double-header in Denver, Colorado. Wrapping up the title with second overall at Friday’s penultimate round, Haaker went on to secure a strong second-place finish on Saturday to conclude the 2021 series on a high note with his fifth-career title together with Husqvarna Motorcycles.

Colton Haaker - 2021 AMA EnduroCross Champion (1).jpg

Haaker eased his way into the first moto of the night, settling into the second-place spot right away on the opening lap. He made a charge towards the leader but a couple mistakes held him back from contesting the lead and he finished second. In race two, Haaker got a top-five start and broke into the lead halfway through the race, finishing strong with the win. He had a great start in race three, making his way to the front early on. He ended up getting passed late in the race but he maintained his position to ultimately finish second, which was enough for him to wrap up the title with one round remaining on Saturday.

“I didn’t feel amazing on Friday night but I knew we just needed to grit it out and get the job done,” Haaker said. “I made a couple mistakes that cost me the overall win but we were still able to bring home the title, which was the ultimate goal. This makes it five titles with Husqvarna Motorcycles, eight total with world supers, so I’m just looking to go down as the greatest!”

With the title wrapped up, Haaker came into Saturday’s finale with no strings attached and he still showed up in top form to claim pole position with a near-perfect laptime in hot laps. The newly crowned champ got the holeshot in the first moto and immediately gapped the rest of the field until he got caught up in lapped traffic and found himself stuck on the tire uphill. Dropping to fourth, he battled through a couple more crashes to ultimately finish fourth. In race two, Haaker got stuck in a first-turn pileup and found himself back in dead last on the opening lap. He quickly made his way into second and applied pressure on the leader but wasn’t able to make a pass stick before the checkers, finishing second. In race three, he grabbed a top-three start and battled in a freight-train on the opening lap. He was able to avoid some carnage on the second lap to overtake the lead, where he finished the night off strong with a race-victory in the final bout of the season.

Haaker added, “I felt like I was riding really well but it was not going the way I would have liked, so we salvaged what we could. That’s EnduroCross, it’s hard to stay perfect and clean, and if it wasn’t so unpredictable, the sport wouldn’t be that fun to watch. I put it together in the last race and secured the win, which was a nice way to end the season.”

Finishing all six rounds inside the top-two, Haaker came away with three overall wins and three second-place finishes on the season. Earning his fifth career-title, he now sits tied with Taddy Blazusiak for the most championships in the EnduroCross Series.

Timmy Weigand – Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing Team Manager: “I’m excited to see Colton’s hard work and dedication to his craft continue to pay off with his fifth-career title this season. He is a special rider with a ton of ability and it has been great to be a part of his growth as a racer and witness all of his championships with the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing Team. Congrats to Colton and the team for a great season.”

Podium-Proven YXZ1000R, YFZ450R, and YZ250FX Racers Claim Victories Nationwide

MARIETTA, Ga. – October 28, 2021 – Yamaha Motor Corp., USA, Side-by-Side (SxS), ATV, and motorcycle bLU cRU racers have captured various titles and championship bonuses for the 2021 season competing on the podium-proven YXZ1000R, YFZ450R, and YZ250FX vehicles in various off-road races across the country, including Championship Off-Road, ATV Motocross (ATV MX), Grand National Cross Country (GNCC), and King of the Elements racing series.

Yamaha had an unprecedented year competing at the Championship Off-Road Tour with bLU cRU racers taking every SxS championship in the series. Yamaha Racing’s Brock Heger captured the Pro Stock SxS class and $15,000 bLU cRU bonus in his BH Motorsports / Yamaha / Weller Racing / Maxxis YXZ1000R with a 47-point lead over fellow Yamaha bLU cRU racer, and defending Pro Stock champion, CJ Greaves. Owen VanEperen rounded out the podium as Yamaha YXZs placed in the top seven positions. Owen VanEperen also finished third in the Pro Mod SxS series behind his father and fellow bLU cRU racer, Rodney VanEperen, who earned his first Pro Mod SxS Championship and $10,000 bLU cRU bonus in his Powersports 1 / Beyond Redline YXZ1000R. Yamaha bLU cRU racers also took the top 11 positions in the Pro-Am SxS series, with Dylan Marquardt, Tyson Marquardt, and Dylan Parsons earning the top podium positions and bLU cRU bonuses, respectively.

Owen VanEperen also secured the SxS Sports’ King of the Elements series Pro Stock SxS class win, with fellow YXZ1000R racer Dylan Marquardt taking second. In this series dominated by Yamahas, for the Sportsman SxS class, Chase Kleist, Jake Kosmecki, and Tyson Marquardt finished first, second, and third respectively in their pure sport YXZ1000R Side-by-Sides.

On the ATV circuit, Chad Wienen made history in the ATV Motocross series, tying Gary Denton’s record with his eighth AMA Pro championship, as well as a third-straight Pro Stock championship on Saturday, September 4, at Briarcliff MX in Nashport, Ohio. Wienen earned four wins in the AMA Pro class and never finished a race below second throughout the 10-round series. Wienen secured the championship with a 16-point lead over fellow bLU cRU racers, Joel Hetrick, who earned six first-place finishes in the series, and Bryce Ford for a Yamaha YFZ450R podium sweep. Bryce Ford also earned the Pro-Am class championship and $2,500 championship bonus with seven wins amidst a field of Yamaha competitors. In the women’s WMX class, Andrea Berger came through with a solid season, winning six of nine rounds on her YFZ450R to secure the title for the second year in a row.

Continuing his historic run in the GNCC series, career Yamaha factory-supported racing veteran, Walker Fowler, surpassed Bill Ballance for the second-most all-time wins record and claimed his seventh-straight championship, earning the $15,000 bLU cRU championship bonus on his WFR / GBC / Fly Racing YFZ450R. Clinching the series early on September 25 in round 11 at Burr Oak, Fowler rounded out the season with eight wins and finished on the podium in 11 of the 13 races in the XC1 Pro ATV class.

For the GNCC’s two-wheel premier classes, AmPro Yamaha Racing’s Rachael Archer and BABS Racing’s Becca Sheets were neck-and-neck all year on their YZ250FXs, swapping leads and first place finishes throughout the season in pursuit of the WXC – Bike championship. Although Archer won the YamahaRacing Ironman finale, Sheets narrowly secured third, allowing her to walk away with another title and the bLU cRU championship bonus with 306 points and seven overall wins. Archer trailed by only one point after earning six overall wins. After missing the first round due to injury and many hard-fought battles throughout the season, AmPro Yamaha Racing’s Steward Baylor finished second overall with 284 points on his YZ450FX in the XC1 Pro bike class after ten podiums and the most overall wins at seven.

In support of GNCC’s annual “pink race” at the Yamaha Racing Ironman GNCC in Crawfordsville, Indiana, raising breast cancer awareness and funding local breast cancer care and research, Yamaha once again returned as a major contributor to the effort, committing $50 for each class win on a Yamaha, and an additional $50 for each 2021 Yamaha championship. This year, with 30 national championships and 41 race-day wins, along with additional fundraising efforts onsite, Yamaha donated over $5,550 supporting the local Faith Alliance Fund, held at the Montgomery County Community Foundation.

Husqvarna Motorcycles Norden 901

HUSQVARNA MOTORCYCLES IS LIFTING THE COVERS OFF THE HIGHLY ANTICIPATED NORDEN 901

DYNAMIC AND VERSATILE TRAVEL MACHINE TO OFFER OUTSTANDING STREET AND OFFROAD CAPABILITY FOR UNCOMPROMISED EXPLORATION

The Husqvarna Motorcycles Norden 901 is finally hitting dealer floors in North America. First shown to great acclaim as a concept model at the 2019 EICMA Motorcycle Show in Milan, Italy, Husqvarna Motorcycles has built true offroad ability into an exceptional adventure travel motorcycle that keeps on going when the road ends.

Inspired by Husqvarna Motorcycles’ Factory Rally machines, the Norden 901 is built to cover long distances across challenging, diverse landscapes. Fast, fun, nimble and above all capable, this is a motorcycle that makes even the longest riding days rewarding, no matter how far the rider chooses to go, whether on-road or off.

The Norden 901 brings a tough yet lightweight approach to the midclass adventure sector. A smooth and torquey 899 cc parallel-twin engine powers the Norden 901 with dual balancer shafts to minimize vibration. The engine is housed in a light steel trellis frame, prepared to carry rider, luggage, and passenger to the furthest points of the map, across any terrain, assisted by WP APEX suspension with long 220 mm travel. Large diameter 21 inch front and 18 inch rear tires roll easily over obstacles on the trail. For all its exemplary offroad ability, the Norden 901 also offers unrivalled comfort and agility on tarmac.

A rider headed deep into unknown territory needs to know they can rely on their machine in extreme situations. Therefore, the Norden 901 braking system is backed up by switchable Bosch Cornering ABS with Street and Offroad modes. Husqvarna Motorcycles’ lean-angle sensitive Cornering Motorcycle Traction Control (MTC) is also there to assist, with particular attention paid to its levels of offroad assistance.

Making every journey an adventure beyond the horizon, the Norden 901 offers three selectable ride modes as standard (Street, Rain, Offroad) and an optional Explorer mode to deal with every circumstance the rider might encounter. An Easy Shift function allows for clutchless shifts up and down the six-speed gearbox, while a Power Assist Slipper Clutch (PASC) maintains rear wheel composure.

Technical highlights:

  • Chromium-molybdenum steel trellis frame with engine as stressed member

  • 889 cc parallel-twin engine is smooth and powerful across the rpm range

  • Adjustable WP APEX suspension provides exceptional comfort both on the street and offroad

  • Three selectable ride modes (Street, Rain, Offroad) and optional Explorer mode

  • Cutting-edge, switchable cornering ABS with Offroad mode

  • Ride-by-wire throttle

  • Easy Shift function

  • Cornering-sensitive Motorcycle Traction Control (allows for nine levels of adjustable rear wheel slip in Explorer mode)

  • Power Assist Slipper Clutch (PASC)
